How are you doing with your goals for this year? Haven’t made a list yet? Here are some suggestions for the working professional who wants to integrate work and life. It starts by looking carefully at your Time and Budget:
Keep a time planning journal: Prioritizing making time for family, keeping up with friends, and looking realistic at what you can do in a day.
Create a budget that notes the essentials but also has room for “play money.” Because life happens, review the budget after one 30-day cycle and adjust it accordingly. Make sure you have savings and future financial planning built in.
Be more mindful and present. Take 15 minutes in the morning to steady, be present and grounded to prepare for the day. Then go to your time planning journal to look at what needs to be done.
Prioritize cleaning and organizing. Got a pile you keep wanting to get to? Put it on the schedule. Take off your watch and put aside the phone that would distract you. Get it done.
Prioritize sleep! Rest will help you feel your best and make solid decisions and solutions.
Make your health screenings a priority and within the first two weeks of starting your new planning routine, call and get those appointments.
Explore and take up a hobby!
Volunteer, give to others and let situations go.
Walk, Swim, Move. You can think about steps but just get it in. Prioritize on the calendar and drink that 64 oz. water with a new cool container.
Build time for reading; newspapers, books, journals. Weekly or daily. Budget for subscriptions! You can even listen while you work out.
Make sure that you regularly check and review each goal. Every goal has to be quantifiable and measurable. For example, if you set a goal to read or listen to five books this year, space it out. Don’t get frustrated and give yourself grace. You can build in breaks, but be sure to come back to that goal.
