Making the World More Inclusive, One Swing at a Time

A lot of business is done on the golf course. Connections are made and relationships are strengthened all while chasing a little ball around a grassy field. While golf is a great sport, the barrier to entry can be high and historically, many people, especially women and people of color, have been left out of the golfing world. To help overcome these challenges, Mays and Associates, Ltd. (M&A) partnered with the Northwest Ohio Minority Business Assistance Center (NWO MBAC) this fall to offer two golf clinics for beginners.

To some, a golf clinic may seem like an odd service for a consulting firm such as M&A or a business development center such as the NWO MBAC to offer. We disagree. Both M&A and the NWO MBAC exist to help foster a more diverse and inclusive business culture for everyone. We see helping people gain access to the world of golf as a key part of our mission and vision.

The focus of our fall clinic was to introduce women to and to get them excited about golf, especially those without any previous exposure. We spent a lot of time going over the language of the game, etiquette, clothing and equipment. Once we were all starting to speak the same language, we began building a swing, from the grip to the stance and ultimately hitting the ball. Both sessions had a great group of attendees and we had a lot of fun. A huge thank you to the Quarry Ridge Golf Course for hosting us, this is one of the best places for golfers to practice in NW Ohio and SE Michigan.

We hope to offer more programs like this in the winter and spring. If you are interested in participating, please contact us at info@maysassociatesltd.com for more information.

Golf is a lifelong pursuit and M&A, along with the NWO MBAC, wants to be there to help you along the way.
